Submitted for your perusal a number of GOP members being a little more candid than they may have intended. This is only a sample, there are many more.

    http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2012/02/13/grover-norquist-speech-cpac.html

Norquist: Romney will do as told

We are not auditioning for fearless leader. We don't need a president to tell us in what direction to go. We know what direction to go. We want the Ryan budget. ... We just need a president to sign this stuff. We don't need someone to think it up or design it.

Pick a Republican with enough working digits to handle a pen to become president of the United States.

    http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Politics/The-Vote/2012/0322/Romney-Etch-A-Sketch-Is-aide-s-comment-a-present-for-his-foes-video

Asked whether Mr. Romney had moved too far to the right for the general election, Mr. Fehrnstrom said that the GOP hopeful would hit a reset button for the fall campaign, "It's almost like an Etch A Sketch," he said. "you can kind of shake it up and restart it all over again."

    http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/01/20/1056851/-Mitt-Romney-Of-course-the-economy-is-getting-better-

ROMNEY: Well, of course it’s getting better. The economy always gets better after a recession, there is always a recovery.

From Rep. Steve King (R–Iowa), explaining why he wants the GOP to support full-on repeal of healthcare reform rather than the wimpier "repeal and replace":

I didn't want to confuse the message on repeal by adding the word "replace" because there's a question mark that hangs on "replace," which is, "What would you replace it with?" and then the discussion gets drug down [sic] into something that all Republicans are not going to agree on.

Alabama Republican Spencer Bachus, the incoming chairman of the House banking committee, says the role of Congress and federal regulators is to “serve” financial institutions.

“In Washington, the view is that the banks are to be regulated, and my view is that Washington and the regulators are there to serve the banks,” Bachus told TheBirmingham News in an interview.

As political spin goes, this is a true gem. Kyl said abortion is "well over 90% of what Planned Parenthood does" -- a blatant lie -- and when called on it, his defense is that his remarks on the Senate floor were "not intended to be a factual statement."

    http://www.minnpost.com/eric-black-ink/2011/05/gingrich-anyone-who-quotes-me-accurately-liar

"Let me say on the record, any ad which quotes what I said on Sunday is a falsehood. Because I have said publicly those words were inaccurate and unfortunate."

    http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/04/07/1079852/-Bring-the-Crazy-The-Republican-Congress-Week-64

Rep. Paul Ryan accidentally revealed the true motive of GOP "support" for the troops when he was forced to backpedal after calling top generals liars.  What had happened, that led Ryan to make such intemperate remarks about the military leadership?  In brief, the top military leaders said that they could ensure national security while spending less than the GOP wants them to spend.  You would think that such information would be welcomed by Republicans, whose mantra of "waste, fraud, and abuse" is regularly invoked against non-military spending of all sorts.  But no - Ryan simply said he didn't believe the generals were being truthful.

"There's an old saying in Tennessee—I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee—that says, fool me once, shame on—shame on you. Fool me—you can't get fooled again." President George W. Bush

    Dear Mr. Chump Trump,

You basically raped large portions of the western coastline of Scotland. You destroyed ancient, rare wetlands and displaced numerous farmers, mostly by financial intimidation. Now you're crying like a baby that there might be wind mills off the shore of "your" golf course. And demanding that the Scottish Parliament bend to your weasley whims. I don't know what this outcome will be but I surely hope the Nation of Scotland thumbs it's collective nose at you! And I surely hope they turn their backs, bend forward, lift their plaids and show you how they really feel, ya jackass!

BTW I loved it when the Scottish Parliament laughed out loud when you stated that YOU were the best spokesman for their tourist industry. That was hilarious!

Just a response to another right wing, grasping-at-straws article. It was another futile attempt to make something out of nothing.

    Pathetic, really.

WASHINGTON -- Nine days after a U.S. soldier allegedly massacred 17 civilians in Afghanistan, a top-level Pentagon health official ordered a widespread, emergency review of the military’s use of a notorius anti-malaria drug called mefloquine.

    Wow!

  • Or I could be and until these idiotic "Stand Your Ground" laws are repealed or altered significantly, YOU could be Trayvon too!

A new lawsuit filed by an Alaska man aims to remove President Barack Obama from the state's ballot, arguing that Obama is not a "natural born citizen" because he is African-American"

This is not Epperly's first eyebrow-raising lawsuit. As Care2 notes, he also protested Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski's (R) re-election in 2010 because of her gender.

"All women and none [sic] white citizens holding public offices of the United States are 'usurpers' of office," he wrote in that complaint.

Lisafrequency, lisaed, mrsrachelm, Boudicea, Therese Nelson and numerous others.

You are some of the conservative women on the vine who's opinions I respect even when we don't agree. This subject should not be a partisan one. But certain political forces are trying to make it one. I understand if you are against abortion, I hope you allow for the exceptions of rape, incest and most importantly, a threat to the woman's life.

But now we are facing restrictions and banning in some states of most forms of contraception. Also, six or seven states have passed the transvaginal ultrasound law. This is an extremely invasive procedure. How it can be required when it's not medically necessary, I just don't understand. This procedure is required for ALL women seeking an abortion, regardless of her reason ( rape, incest, death risk).

I'd like to ask you the following questions:

    1) How is this not "Big Government" taking away your liberties?

    2) Taxes will end up paying for these unnecessary procedures and for the ill health of the women who have no access to contraception they need for birth control and other medical reasons. Are you okay with that government spending?

    3) I don't know all your ages but if you are of child bearing years or your daughters are, don't you want there to be reasonable access to contraceptives?

    4) If we were to ban all abortions AND contraception what do you think the results would be?

After reading a seed from MCSPOCKY earlier and thinking about it I realized I wanted to ask you all a few questions. Thank you in advance if your choose to comment. I appreciate it.

Prominent Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel has called on Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney to “speak to his own church” and ask them to stop performing posthumous proxy baptisms on Jews.

The demand, reported on the Huffington Post website, comes after members of the Mormon church, also known as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (LDS), baptized the dead parents of famed Nazi hunter Simon Wiesenthal, an act that provoked a storm of criticism and led to an apology from the church.

Palin went on to call his statement an instance of a "lack of self-discipline" on Christie's part. She also suggested that Christie had his share of moments that could be considered embarrassing to the GOP, such as "taking a state helicopter to his kid's baseball game.

Really? What about her "state" tanning bed?

  • The linked article is a little disturbing to me for several reasons.

    One-

She was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes three years ago yet she continued her cooking show which promotes unhealthy food choices.

    Two-

“Now I’m not recommending this, but if you don’t have those genes working against you, you could gain weight and not exercise and your blood sugar would stay normal,” Goland said.

This is irresponsible, if he's "not recommending it" then he shouldn't say it.

    Three-

The author seems to make light of a deadly disease that is clearly a consequence of (except genetic cases) bad diet and lack of exercise. I don't know if it was intentional but the sources she uses also seem to make light of Diabetes.

    With a few zodiac connotations:

    Mercury........Huntsman.......quick-witted, good communicator

    Venus...........Romney..........goddess of love and beauty

*Earth...........Obama...........feet on solid ground, home to the human race

    Jupiter..........Gingrich.........a large gaseous planet

    Uranus.........Santorum........do I need to explain?

    Neptune.......Paul................dreamer

Pluto............Perry...............way out in (solar) left right field

Okay, the last two are almost interchangeable.

Also, I skipped Saturn and Mars, none of the above seemed to fit those categories ....

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Kansas teenager who wrote a disparaging tweet about Gov. Sam Brownback said Sunday that she is rejecting her high school principal's demand for a written apology.

Emma Sullivan, 18, of the Kansas City suburb of Fairway, said she isn't sorry and doesn't think such a letter would be sincere.

The Shawnee Mission East senior was taking part in a Youth in Government program last week in Topeka, Kan., when she sent out a tweet from the back of a crowd of students listening to Brownback's greeting. From her cellphone, she thumbed: "Just made mean comments at gov. brownback and told him he sucked, in person (hash)heblowsalot."

She actually made no such comment and said she was "just joking with friends." But Brownback's office, which monitors social media for postings containing the governor's name, saw Sullivan's post and contacted the Youth in Government program.

A Miami Gardens transgender woman is facing charges of practicing medicine without a license after police say she injected a patient's rear with everything but the kitchen sink in an illegal cosmetic surgery procedure.

According to police, the victim saw Morris in May and was injected in her buttocks with a substance consisting of cement, "Fix a Flat," mineral oil and super glue.

  • I just finished reading the article and the comments that followed. Out of curiosity I took a tally of all the supporting commenters to see how many were participating. Out of 27 there were 10 who were "last seen" on 11/16, the other 17 were here today, including the author!!! Wow, a boycott of NV! Out of thousands, probably tens of thousands of NV members 10 have decided to take part in a ban, boycott or embargo, whatever you want to call it. I'm probably being generous about the number, out of 10, some were probably otherwise occupied (with life). So maybe 7 or 8 are actually participating in UON. Woo hoo!

    ................................................................................................

This reminds me of an article here a few days ago, someone posted comments about the value of not voting and making a statement by not voting. In reality that makes no statement at all. It only results in apathy. Boycotting a product or service by a large number works. Boycotting NV by a handful is meaningless.

Is this what amounts to a "movement"? Maybe if you're referring to peristalsis.

    Go UON!

Several states are introducing bills that give person-hood to a woman's fertilized ovum. This fertilized ovum would then have certain legal protections including legal counsel. The fertilized ovum may already have lawyers, are we ready for that? Needless to say this will outlaw almost all forms of birth control. We are 7 billion now. Is this insanity lost on anyone who thinks?

So does it then follow that a woman with a fertilized ovum could be subject to having an ankle monitoring device if she doesn't want the pregnancy? And who proves if and when fertilization has taken place? Would you then have to prove paternity in order to take the steps necessary to force the woman to carry the fertilized ovum to term. Or would the state make a determination? Are you ready for that?

And what about miscarriage?, Since one in four pregnancies end in miscarriage who and how will it be determined if a woman had a natural miscarriage or an illegal abortion. Could a woman who has a miscarriage be accused and convicted of murder? Are you ready for that?.

And what about the spermatozoa? They swim like mad so surely they're persons also. And if I'm not mistaken, the BIBLE states that is a mortal sin for a man to spill his seed needlessly. So guys, are you all ready to shut off the porn, put the girlie mags down and be masters of your own domains (to paraphrase a Seinfeld episode)? Are you all ready for that? I'm waiting.    Do those spermatozoa have lawyers too?

Do you see where this is going? My questions are just the tip of the ice berg.

Let's face it, political analysis junkies will be handicapping this field of Reps for the next 14 months. We're watching a horse race. Here's my brief review of the Rep debate, 9/7/11.

The photos to the right are not in order.

Out of the gate we have:

Romney..... He pretty much ran away with it. He swatted away Perry's feeble attacks at his jobs record in Mass. and asserted the importance of SSI when Perry tried to reinforced his own "Ponzi Scheme" meme. He also complemented the "Tea Party" while keeping his association with them at arm's length.

Perry.........He started out fairly strong but as the debate wore on his speaking skills became weaker and weaker. After hearing GWB and Sarah Palin I'm used to certain politicians dropping their g's but toward the end he wasn't even conjugating verbs (in English). I don't know if his worst moment was the "Ponzi Scheme" comments or the ones about global warming (his skepticism). Stoooooopid!

Huntsman..... He did pretty well for a late runner. He also sounded the sanest. He's far and away more intelligent than Perry and much more pragmatic too. Unfortunately (for me) he's singing the same tired, old saw about reducing taxes on businesses in order to create jobs. It hasn't worked for the past 30 years. What could possible make it work now?

    Bachmann.....Who? Fading as we speak.

Paul......Rambling Ron, one moment he makes clear and lucid statements and in the next breath he says some really nutty thing. He was talking about the border tonight and said we as Americans should fear whether we will be allowed out of the country with our capital !?!?

Gingrich..... Square-Head Sponge-Newt .... I'm trying to remember something of significance that he said. I did hear him bellowing like a bull but I forget what his point was.

Cain .... Mr. 999. He had very little participation and the few times he spoke it was all about his "999" plan. Google it.

Santorum ....Bringing up the rear (Google this one too) :-)  He'll be coming in last.

  • Peer-reviewed journals are a pillar of modern science. Their aim is to achieve highest scientific standards by carrying out a rigorous peer review that is, as a minimum requirement, supposed to be able to identify fundamental methodological errors or false claims. Unfortunately, as many climate researchers and engaged observers of the climate change debate pointed out in various internet discussion fora, the paper by Spencer and Braswell [1] that was recently published in Remote Sensing is most likely problematic in both aspects and should therefore not have been published.

After having become aware of the situation, and studying the various pro and contra arguments, I agree with the critics of the paper. Therefore, I would like to take the responsibility for this editorial decision and, as a result, step down as Editor-in-Chief of the journal Remote Sensing.
